BELMONT, NC February 16, 2004--The Abbey Players take audiences on a rollercoaster ride with The Compleat Works of Wm. Shakespeare (Abridged) created by Jess Borgeson, Adam Long and Daniel Singer on February 19-21, 26-28, 8:00 PM, The Haid Theatre, Belmont Abbey College. Admission is $10.00.

This fall-down funny, non-stop tour-de-force, showcases all of the Bard's 37 plays in just under 2 hours. The audience is treated with the Othello Rap, the History Play Football Game, and Hamlet Backwards. Members of the audience participate (a la Forever Plaid), and Shakespeare will never be the same.
The Abbey Players have been in continuous production since 1884, a proven asset to the cultural life of Gaston County and the greater-Charlotte area for more than 100 years. "The Players" have called the Haid Theatre on the campus of Belmont Abbey College home since 1979. Highly acclaimed theatre director, Simon Donoghue, is celebrating his 27th year with the Abbey Players.
Belmont Abbey College, named one of the country’s leading, private liberal arts colleges by U.S. News and World Report, is located in Belmont, North Carolina, 15 miles west of Charlotte. The campus consists of the College, the Monastery and the Abbey Basilica, which can be found on its sprawling 650 acres of picturesque landscape. Nearly a thousand students call The Abbey home. The students, with diverse religious and cultural backgrounds, represent more than 18 countries and 34 states and pursue undergraduate degrees in a number of liberal arts course offerings.
Founded in 1876, the College celebrates its heritage and is inspired by the Benedictine monastic tradition. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the College and Abbey Basilica greet thousands of visitors each year. |
