National Magazine Features ‘Abbey Lane’ -- Prospective Students, Parents Get an Eyeful
BELMONT, NC February 21, 2004--They say a picture is worth a thousand words.
If that’s true, it won’t take a lot to convince anyone that Belmont Abbey College is one of the most beautiful campuses in the country.
In fact, thousands of college-bound students and their families will be welcomed with a view of Abbey Lane, one of Belmont Abbey College’s most recognizable landmarks, now featured on the cover of The Official Catholic College and University Guidebook.
The classic fall picture of Abbey Lane, showcasing many of the College’s current students, was selected among countless others from more than 130 other Catholic institutions of higher learning. The photo was part of Belmont Abbey College’s new student recruitment campaign developed by the Abbey’s Admission Office, Office of Public Relations and Stein Communications.
“We’re very proud that The National Catholic College Admission Association chose Belmont Abbey College to grace the cover of its guidebook,” says Teresa Sowers McKinney, director of public relations and communications at Belmont Abbey College. “We hope with this kind of publicity that students and their families everywhere will learn what the rest of us already know – Belmont Abbey College is one of the hidden treasures of Charlotte, North Carolina.”
Belmont Abbey College also won the 2003 CASE District III Award of Excellence for the same recruitment campaign.
The guidebook provides prospective students with information about Belmont Abbey College, as well as other institutions, while promoting the advantages of attending a Catholic college or university. The guidebook also offers timelines and checklists to help students as they prepare for college.
The National Catholic College Admission Association is a non-profit organization of Catholic colleges and universities committed to serving students, parents, and counselors in the transition from high school to college.
Belmont Abbey College, named one of the country’s leading, private liberal arts colleges by U.S. News and World Report, is located in Belmont, North Carolina, 15 miles west of Charlotte. The campus consists of the College, the Monastery and the Abbey Basilica, which can be found on its sprawling 650 acres of picturesque landscape. Nearly a thousand students call The Abbey home. The students, with diverse religious and cultural backgrounds, represent more than 18 countries and 34 states and pursue undergraduate degrees in a number of liberal arts course offerings.
Founded in 1876, the College celebrates its heritage and is inspired by the Benedictine monastic tradition. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the College and Abbey Basilica greet thousands of visitors each year.
