Slidell, LA April 26, 2004--Grantham University, recognized by military service members and global employers as one of America¡¯s leading online universities, announced today the expansion of its Military Scholarship program to include online distance education degree programs in Criminal Justice (CJ). Active duty service members, National Guard members, and reservists can enroll into the programs and continue to take advantage of Grantham¡¯s Military Scholarship Program. This scholarship provides those who have tuition assistance provided by the Department of Defense (DOD) the means to earn a college degree completely online with no out-of-pocket expenses. Since Sept. 11, 2001, the heightened state of security throughout the world has created a great demand for knowledgeable workers in the Criminal Justice field, says Gary Sutter, Ph.D., Grantham¡¯s Dean of Academics. He said Grantham University developed these degree programs to prepare students for the specialized criminal justice jobs needed for the dangerous times in which we live. The Grantham program is a ¡°fresh, smart approach¡± to learning about criminal justice techniques used in the world today, he says.
The Criminal Justice general degree is most suitable for the CJ "generalist" who desires a broad knowledge base of criminal justice, its foundations, its development, and implementations, says Dr. Sutter. The Homeland Security specialty focuses on an interdisciplinary set of topics associated with homeland security including psychology of terrorism, forecasting terrorism, terrorism & counterterrorism, border & coastal security, terrorism & U.S. national security, and emergency planning. ¡°These topics are especially relevant since we all know the importance of airport security, border surveillance, and Internet terrorism and the effects the issues have on the every day life of all Americans,¡± he says.
Dr. Sutter noted that the Computer Science specialty emphasizes the value of computers in the field. The program will cover such topics as computer forensics & cyber crime, criminal justice & criminology on the Internet, intro to computing in CJ, information security, and criminal intelligence analysis. The use of computers and computer science in the law enforcement arena has "exploded in recent years and we saw a great value in incorporating our already successful Computer Science program into the mix of courses. This specialty meshes nicely with Grantham¡¯s core expertise of computer science and information systems," he said.
In addition to the CJ program, Grantham offers Master of Science and Master of Business Administration (MBA) graduate programs; and Associate and Bachelor¡¯s of Science degrees in Business Administration, Computer Science, Computer Engineering Technology, Software Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, Information Systems, and Engineering Management.
