Alumni couple gives Oklahoma Christian University $30 million gift

Oklahoma Christian University alumni H. Richard and Pat Lawson of Dallas have given their alma mater a gift valued at almost $30 million, one of the largest single gifts ever made to the university. The gift of 4.0 million shares of Lawson Software stock is among a number of major gifts Oklahoma Christian has received in recent years. The late Edward L. Gaylord, chairman and publisher of The Oklahoma Publishing Company, presented Oklahoma Christian with a gift of $40 million in 2000.

Over the University of Illinois' Spring Break a group of 9 students, 8 of whom are members of Illinois Alpha chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, helped build houses in Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota. Led by Senior Matthew Houseward, the group traveled 980 miles from Champaign, Illinois, to Pine Ridge, South Dakota to work with Pastor Leon Matthews of Pine Ridge Gospel Fellowship to further his intention to better the Lakota people.

The Capitol College Board of Trustees announced March 29 the appointment of Dr. Michael T. Wood as the seventh president of Capitol College. Wood comes to Capitol College from Walsh College of Accountancy and Business Administration in Troy, Mich., where he most recently has served as vice president, chief academic officer and dean. He succeeds Dr. G. William Troxler, Capitol’s president since 1977 who will retire June 30.
